New York, New York
When you first arrive in New York City, the lights, smells and the crowds may overwhelm you however the city of New York would use it's charm to draw you back in. This city has characteristics like no other city, in the middle of all the hustle and bustle you would also be able to fine places of peace and tranquility.
New York City has an acalictic mix of cultures and arts both traditional and mordern in all different boroughs of city. There is a never a dull moment in New York City as there is always something to suit one's taste from plays and musicals on Broadway, shopping on 5th Avenue to Jazz and Blues in Harlem.
Without a doubt New York City has a special place in all our hearts due to the events that happened on 11th September 2001 which shocked the world. All of us could reflect on where and what we were doing when events unfolded that day. I'm lucky enought to be in New York City of the 15th anniversary of 9/11. To me it's at time to reflect on how insignificant life can be at times and to remember those that have lost their lives in such tragic events that happen on 9/11.
Being here in New York City has demonstrated how resilient people can be and how individuals affected have been trying to rebuild their lives as well as the city of New York. It clear that individuals who have passed on 9/11 are gone but never forgotten by the city, it's people and the rest of world.
People tend to travel only to Manhattan and not other parts of New York. One place that is worlds apart from Manhatten's glitz and glamour is Coney Island. Although Coney Island is rough around the edges, it still has personality and characteristics such as the amusement parks and beach front promenade.
Who would have thought New York would have a sandy beaches where New Yorkers flock to for some rest and relaxation from the mundane of a busy city life?
Till this day, Coney Island continues to hold on to it's own identity against the tide of modernisation. One clear example is the Coney Island Circus Sideshow. Some of the performers may not fit into mainstream society but they all have individual talents that have taken lots of hard work, sacrifice and practice to get to level they are at. In order for such performances and for Coney Island to keep it's unique identity, it requires on going support from the general public and tourist to keep their traditions alive. The next time you decide to visit New York why not visit the suburbs too?
